Youth Skills Training Graduates First Cohort

Twenty young people have completed the first cohort of our youth skills training programme in Zimbabwe, graduating with the mentorship, life skills and career direction they need to build a brighter, more self-reliant future. For teenagers who have grown up facing poverty, loss or exclusion, this milestone is far more than a certificate — it is proof that their potential was worth investing in.

What youth skills training gives young people

Confidence is often the first thing vulnerable young people lack, and it is the first thing our programme restores. Over several months, each participant is paired with a mentor and guided through practical, work-ready skills alongside the personal development that helps them make good decisions and set goals worth chasing.

Inside the programme

The curriculum blends technical ability with character and direction:

  • One-to-one and group mentorship from positive role models
  • Life skills, financial literacy and communication
  • Career guidance and job-readiness coaching
  • Vocational and entrepreneurial skills training

Graduates leave with a plan and the belief that they can carry it out. Several have already started small businesses or returned to further study, and each becomes a role model for the younger children coming up behind them.

Why skills training breaks the cycle of poverty

When a young person gains a skill and the confidence to use it, the effect ripples outward for years. They earn an income, support younger siblings, and show every child in their household that a different future is possible. Investing in a young person’s development this way is one of the most powerful ways to break the cycle of poverty for good, because it does not simply relieve a need today — it equips a young person to meet their own needs, and their family’s, for a lifetime. That is the difference between charity and lasting change.
